URBAN VILLAGE LDN

What’s New, On & Happening in Fulham

September 2026

"September days have the warmth of summer in their briefer hours, but in their lengthening evenings a prophetic breath of autumn." - Rowland E. Robinson

What’s New

Stubby’s

You can’t have missed the buzz created by Stubby’s when they opened the doors of their neighbourhood café at the end of July. We of course had to head down to Parsons Green Lane to see what all the fuss was about. First impressions, with their gorgeous branding and interiors, were that a piece of East London had landed in our urban village. This little spot packs a punch serving “good stuff all day!” - coffee, sandwiches, a larder section stocking pantry staples, home made sauces etc and now there’s more!

Stubby’s manger Leah summed it up beautifully “we’re expanding the good stuff all day and into the evening”. September kicks things off with a restaurant takeover by Kit Patterson of the Candid Club, there’s a wine launch, Negroni week, sponsored by Campari, and due to popular demand and, much debate by the team, later opening hours when they add wine bar to their repertoire.

We’ve loved seeing the queues of people heading there and have enjoyed a Maple Sea Salt Cloud latte, the most insanely delicious sandwich (mozzarella, jalapeno, Parma ham and courgette) and meeting the team behind this new venture who are excited to be part of the Fulham community. Owned by Oli Man and Greg Weaver their inspiration for Stubby’s came from the Australian hospitality scene.

Leah told Urban Village LDN “opening our doors has been surprising in a great way. We’ve had such a warm reception so we must be doing something right! Fulham is such a special place we just love this neighbourhood and are looking forward to all the new things we’ve got planned at Stubby’s starting this month”. From tasting Sauvignon Blanc alternatives after work on a Tuesday to the restaurant takeover follow https://www.instagram.com/stubbyslondon to find out more about what they’ve gone in store for us Fulhamites.

The Wisdom of Clarence

We love hearing about the creativity that’s going on behind Fulham doors so it was fantastic to connect with first time author and Fulham resident Nick Fox. We out more about this local author and his satirical novel “The Wisdom of Clarence". A Wimbledon exile Nick has lived in Fulham for the last 25 years and his recently launched book reflects on his industrial experiences when he began his working career in the 1980s.

Nick told Urban Village LDN “It is a light hearted but pointed look at human nature in the business environment. The story is rude, crude, violent, farcical, and always amusing. The language is fruity. These elements combine with the central characters' unstable relationships and constant search for direction. There is something for all readers of the book and many will identify and sympathise with the dilemmas, frustrations and battles they have faced in their individual working lives”.

Nick was born in Wimbledon, London and spent over forty years working in the logistics industry both in the United Kingdom and internationally. Nick’s potted bio made us chuckle “despite claiming to the contrary, his career has been spectacularly average. He worked in many diverse logistics operations, is a Chartered Director and a judge for the annual Supply Chain Excellence Awards. He has worked and connived with gentlemen, supremely talented women, rogues, cads, bounders and criminals. His detached and on occasions aloof manner has made him a keen observer of those around him hence this book”. If you’d like to find out more and stay tuned for SW6 book signings follow Nick on Instagram here https://www.instagram.com/nickfox.author or head to the link below to purchase a copy of “The Wisdom of Clarence”.

Bowls & Croquet

Winnington Bowls Club bill themselves as a friendly lawn bowls club and there are lots of fresh plans afoot. If the name doesn’t sound familiar you’ve most definitely passed the club in Bishop’s Park; you can’t miss the lush green lawns, especially during the Sahara summer we’ve had. The club recently reached out to Urban Village LDN as they have lots of fresh new ideas and are keen to engage with the Fulham community, welcoming not only experienced players but also complete beginners and anyone who is simply curious to give bowls a try.

We spoke to Fulham local Dennis Van Liew to find out more “we have been putting a lot of energy into revitalising the club and introducing more local people to the game. Our 2026 season ends on Saturday 12 September, but we would very much welcome enquiries over the autumn and winter from anyone interested in getting involved when we reopen next April”. The club has a 92 year history and has ambitious plans for next year, most importantly making the green more accessible, encouraging participation across a wider age range, and finding new ways of introducing local residents, families and younger people to bowls. Dennis told Urban Village LDN “One of our priorities is to show that bowls can be both competitive and highly sociable, and that it has a real place within a modern, active Fulham community”.

Here are Urban Village LDN we’re excited about the introduction of “Croquet and Cocktails” which sent us down memory lane reminiscing about the delicious sound made when mallet hits croquet ball. We’re most definitely in when the new season begins next year. If you share our sentiment, would like to hear more and join the club mailing list, get in touch on winningtonbowlsclubfulham@gmail.com

Honesty

The Honesty group chose Fulham to open its first from-scratch London café at 911 Fulham Road last month. This independent, eleven year old family-run food group from Hampshire and Berkshire has eleven coffee shops, two pubs, a cookery school, a bakery and more than 150 employees.

Everything comes from Honesty’s own bakery and central kitchen in Newbury, the sandwiches pastries, all the food on the menu, and around fifty of its own retail products, and are then distributed daily to every site. The team told Urban Village LDN “the Fulham Road kitchen is supplied the same way as every other. We’re a business that values community and this is what drew our group to SW6 and this stretch of the Fulham Road – a residential, walkable part of SW6 with real daily footfall and a strong sense of its own identity”.

The menu features cooked breakfasts, lunch choices include soup of the day, Frittata, seasonal daily specials and Honesty sandwiches (honey roasted ham and gruyere, devilled egg mayo, beetroot with harissa mayo) and nitrate free bacon baps.

Founder and CEO Romilla Arber was raised in a household where baking bread was the norm and has long campaigned on the health dangers of ultra processed food. When she moved to rural Hampshire and couldn’t find a decent loaf, she decided to do something about it so she bought a run-down pub, added a bakery and started baking real bread for the local community and that’s where it all began; now Fulham! “Honesty’s aim is to make healthy choices easy by providing simple, good food served with great coffee, in spaces that feel aligned to the communities in which they sit. Fulham Road is the first London test!”.

What’s Happening

Ray’s Playhouse fundraising campaign

Fulham Social Hub announces Ray’s Playhouse as their new community cause with 10% of all business membership and additional fundraising going towards the campaign to refurbish their outdoor sandpit area. The playhouse located in William Parnell Park (known to Fulhamites as Pineapple Park) is a lasting legacy to Ray Bender who was born and raised in Fulham.

Ray’s Playhouse is a charity funded early years children’s centre, providing daily inclusive stay and play sessions for parents and careers with children under 5 years old. The charity was set up in January 2011 to save the Sands End Playhouse which had been operating in Fulham for over thirty years and relies on donations from individuals, trusts, corporate givers and foundations.

Fulham Social Hub founder, Zara Thomas told Urban Village LDN “we’re delighted to be supporting the campaign to upgrade the playhouse’s outdoor facilities and can’t thank our current members enough for their support with this community cause”. You can find out more about Ray Bender’s lasting legacy on the latest episode of “Fulham Chronicles” https://youtu.be/DfLk9u5dRTc?si=cRuoE-P_i5I0vHGU or join Fulham Social Hub at their next networking / social event on Thursday 24 at Uncommon Fulham and meet the Ray’s team. Everyone who lives and / or works in Fulham welcome https://fshsept26.eventbrite.co.uk/

Fulham Horticultural Show

Fulham Horticultural Society

Once upon a time each of the old ‘villages’ of West London had its own horticultural society but now only the Fulham Horticultural Society remains. This society was founded in 1924 and still, today, holds a show where a variety of cups and other prizes can be won. These include the Royal Horticultural Society’s Banksian Medal, the National Vegetable Society medal and the British Pelargonium and Geranium Society’s Spoon.

After a break the autumn show is back on Saturday 12 (2.30- 4.30pm) at All Saints Church Hall, entry is FREE so do go along and support! It’s been a tough summer for gardeners and allotments but you should be able to see a selection of beautiful flowers including dahlias, chrysanthemums and other plants, pot-grown plants for those with patios or living in flats and there are categories for all sorts of vegetables.

For bakers and jam makers there are cakes, jams and bottled, pickled fruits on show. They also have art, photography, crocheting and children’s' classes.   Homemade cakes and tea will be available to buy and Matthew Pottage from Gardeners’ Questions Time will be handing out the prizes.

Sleep Out

Glass Door is a homeless charity based in Fulham so we like to support their annual sleep out. This year on Friday 9th October 2026, over one hundred people are expected to join Glass Door Homeless Charity’s 14th annual Sleep Out. Glass Door is hoping to raise £100,000 from the Sleep Out, which will help fund the charity’s services and help people to build a route out of homelessness.

Participants can take part in-person at the Duke of York Square in Chelsea, or remotely from anywhere in the world. This year is especially poignant as sleepers will wake up on World Homeless Day – Saturday 10th October having just experienced a glimpse of what someone might face whilst being homeless in London.

Jo Carter, CEO of Glass Door Homeless Charity, said: “Our Annual Sleep Out brings friends, neighbours, colleagues and families together with one shared purpose: to help people who have nowhere to call home. Every pound raised helps us provide the support people need to leave homelessness behind and rebuild their lives. It's a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when a community comes together with compassion." One of last year’s Glass Door Sleep Out volunteers said: “There are people on the streets, day in, day out. 24/7, 365. This is just a way of helping out, really.”
