Truffles & Ruffles lunch taken & owned by Urban Village LDN

Truffles & Ruffles

Last month we were invited to an event which, in a beautiful nutshell, puts a different spin on what it means to network and connect with other creatives. Lunch was held at a gorgeous Fulham residence with a breathtakingly styled table, featuring seasonal flowers and stunning tableware by Club Matters upon which delicious food was served. Interesting conversations were had with a variety of creatives including an artist, architect, the founder of a bespoke furniture company and design studio that uses responsibly sourced timber, the owner of an antiques business and of course the Truffles & Ruffles hosts.

Truffles & Ruffles was founded by interior designers, Annie and Fulham resident Anna of AB Design and Interiors, childhood friends with a background in the arts and architecture respectively, to provide a relaxed, lunch setting for creatives. Annie and Anna told us more “under one roof and around one table Truffles and Ruffles events bridge talent, conversation and ideas to make every occasion a gateway to a growing list of contacts and a rich community of artists, designers, interiors enthusiasts, journalists, photographers and more. Our events always have one aim at heart: this is old fashioned, in-person fun, where like-minded creatives unite without the use of screens and passwords and leave feeling inspired and part of a growing, dependable community”.

If you’re a Fulham creative and you want to meet like minded people involved in the creative industries, grow your network and build contacts to support or collaborate with, why not go along to their next Fulham event which takes place on Friday 26 April? READER OFFER there’s a 10% discount if you quote UrbanVillage10. Compassionate Neighbours Scheme Royal Trinity Hospice

Compassionate Neighbours

Fulham’s local hospice, Royal Trinity Hospice, is on a mission to reduce loneliness and isolation for local people. Many people living with a life-limiting illness or in the last years of life find themselves without a supportive network or someone who has the time to be with them. Compassionate Neighbours is a project which trains local people as compassionate neighbours, and then matches them with people nearby who could benefit from a friendly face and a listening ear. The pair then meet on a regular basis, either at home or out and about, in the hope that a real-life, reciprocal friendship grows, fuelling a greater sense of connection.

Here’s what some “Compassionate Neighbours” say, ‘It feels like a real privilege to be granted access into people’s lives within their physical and emotional space…. Every time we meet up it feels like peeling away another layer, the connection builds each time, it’s rewarding and challenges one’s own perspective.’ ‘It feels like an organic friendship. We are very comfortable together and I am able to be completely open with her, it doesn’t feel forced at all.’

The following quotes are testimony to the difference the compassionate neighbours scheme makes to community members: ‘I look forward so much to seeing her and get excited to talk to her. It is so valuable the work that you do and the difference that you are making.’ ‘It has really helped my confidence, knowing I can have someone to talk to who understands me.’ ‘I have been fortunate to get to know her, I have been extremely lucky, we are never lost for words and each time it feels like there is something more to talk about and catch up on.  We just gel together.’

Beat the Street

Beat the Street

We loved meeting the team at Intelligent Health who partnered with Hammersmith & Fulham council to bring “Beat the Street” to our borough. This free, fun initiative transformed Hammersmith & Fulham into a giant game when it began at the end of February. It was great to hear how this initiative encouraged family, friends, workplace colleagues and local schools to get physically active outdoors, discover more about their local area by walking, running and wheeling whilst earning points and prizes.

"The pupils, families and staff have joined in Beat the Street with great enthusiasm. It brings such benefits to the curriculum including travel training, gross motor skill development and staying safe in the community. We are all very excited to see the leaderboard each week and discuss it in assembly. A great initiative!" - Francesca Smith, Headteacher at Jack Tizard School (SEN)

Over 13,000 people have taken part to date and there have been 390,000 swipes on Beat Boxes. We can’t wait to hear the final stats when the game comes to a close on April 10.

If you took part in Beat the Street join the celebrations on April 16. Head to Ravenscourt Park Glasshouses anytime between 4.30-5.45pm. Take part in fun family-friendly activities, get Beat the Street certificates and more! Hit the link below to find out more details.
