Summer Evenings at the Palace

For the first time, Fulham Palace are opening their historic walled garden after hours on Thursday and Friday evenings throughout the summer. From 2 July to 28 August visitors will be able to enjoy exclusive evening access from 5-9pm. We couldn’t think of a more blissful way to unwind after a busy day; a relaxed alternative from hectic al fresco spaces and crowded pubs.

There are different options for visitors to choose from: garden entry £5 (bring a book, a picnic, meet friends after work), a sunset champagne package £40 (includes entry for two, a chilled bottle of champagne, flutes and a picnic blanket), or an evening yoga session £16 (suitable for all abilities, led by an experienced instructor). Enjoy stretching beneath open skies and connecting with nature and leave the stresses of your week behind.

Urban Village LDN caught up with Nicola Price, Fulham Palace’s Visitor and Commercial Manager “Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the walled garden, and we wanted to create a new experience that allows people to make the most of long evenings in this beautiful setting. Whether you're looking for a moment of calm, time with friends or simply a chance to enjoy the garden in a different light, summer evenings offer something special”. We couldn’t agree more, the walled garden is a gorgeous location to enjoy date night, celebrate a special occasion, or simply a peaceful spot where you can unwind and savour a balmy evening.

Fulham Palace’s summer evenings are ticketed, purchase online in advance or at the door, every purchase helps support Fulham Palace Trust, the independent charity responsible for caring for the historic site and making it accessible to the public.

Strong Fulham

There’s a new Pilates studio in Fulham located at Jerdan Place. Strong Fulham describe themselves as “much more than a traditional Pilates studio” offering high-energy reformer Pilates classes. Their unique Rowformer machines combine the core-strengthening benefits of Pilates with cardio training through rowing and cycling, as well as strength training with weights, sounds like a full body workout to us!

Urban Village LDN caught up with founder and Fulham resident Bojana to find out more. “I have worked as a personal trainer for the past 10 years and have always dreamed of opening my own studio. Fitness has been my passion for as long as I can remember, and creating a space where people can feel stronger, healthier, and more confident has been a long-term goal of mine. Our classes are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone, whether you're completely new to reformer Pilates or already have experience. We are also proud to have created a welcoming environment that appeals equally to both men and women, helping to challenge the misconception that Pilates is only for one type of person. At Strong, our focus is on making fitness effective, inclusive, and fun”.

We asked Bojana about the studio location and how things have been going since they opened their doors. “Fulham has been my home since I moved to London in 2006, so opening Strong here felt like a natural choice. I love the sense of community in the area and have always found the people to be incredibly welcoming and supportive. Jerdan Place has a wonderful neighbourhood feel, and I wanted Strong to become a place where people can come together, move, and feel good. One of the most rewarding parts has been seeing so many familiar faces from the local community walk through our doors and embrace what we're doing. The response has been incredibly positive, and it's been wonderful watching members challenge themselves, gain confidence, and genuinely enjoy their workouts. Building a community around movement and wellbeing is exactly what I hoped Strong would become”.

Cooper’s Gang

Cooper’s Gang is a grooming and wellness studio for pets located at 833 Fulham Road, you can’t miss its eye catching green exterior. Founded by Valentina Valentti Ltd, an established pet care brand with over 15 years of expertise, this is their first step into bricks and mortar offering a calm space with a personal, and considered experience for dogs and their owners. By appointment-only, the studio offers gentle, tailored grooming for dogs and cats of all breeds, using only skin-safe, high-quality products. Every pet receives one-to-one attention in a peaceful space that feels more like a retreat than a routine appointment. Treatments include ultra sonic teeth cleaning, tick removal, nail trimming as well as an express “Fresh and Dash” for £30.

With their back ground in pet supplies you’ll also find pet products for sale in store and an all-natural Pet Deli. There are chic accessories, grooming essentials, toys, dog food and more. Urban Village LDN caught up with Zaria, the Boutique Director, to find out more. “We had an e commerce business importing an exporting pet supplies and rarely spoke to our customers so we wanted to move away from just being an online business and do something different. We took time to develop our ideas before finding a location to bring it to reality. Our business started in Battersea so we were familiar with West London and we spent two years looking at locations, after lots of frustration we were successful in our offer on Fulham Road so it definitely feels like being here was meant to be. We’ve had such an excellent response from local residents, more than we ever expected and local businesses have been in to say hello. It’s been unbelievable, really amazing actually, and we’re excited to serve this community and meet more people”. Sabrosa Empanadas

Local resident Lucas Rodriguez brings the authentic taste of traditional empanadas from his home country Argentina to Fulham and beyond. With a background in food, Lucas launched his new venture Sabrosa Empanadas last month. This is an online business where you can shop and order both savoury and sweet empanadas. Inspired by generations of family recipes, each empanada is made with quality, all natural ingredients and time honoured traditions. These scrumptious parcels can be enjoyed with friends and family in so many ways, a perfect catering option for summer gatherings, picnics or simply those moments, we all have them, when you’re time poor and want something convenient but packed full of flavour to feed hungry mouths. We were lucky enough to sample Sabrosa at the last Fulham Social Hub event at Fulham Palace, the pastry was lighter and the filling was very generous compared to other empanadas we’ve tried.

Sabrosa has over twenty different flavours to choose from: classic savoury (Beef and Caprese, Spicy Chicken, and Pulled Pork), veggie (Goat Cheese & Walnut, Pumpkin and Mozzarella and Four Cheeses), vegan(plant based meat, Tofu and Vegetable ) and sweet treats (Dulce de Leche and Nutella Brownie). Sabrosa Empanadas are delivered frozen to your door ready to bake, simply heat and enjoy. A box of six costs £16.

Parsons Green Fair

The Parsons Green Fair is a much loved annual community event which takes place on the first Saturday of July. Head over to the heart of our urban village on Saturday 4 (10-6pm) to enjoy this free event that brings food, music, entertainment and market stalls to the green - there’s something for everybody! Local drama and music schools perform on the main stage throughout the day, younger children can enjoy free activities including a petting zoo, donkey rides, magic shows and a circus workshop as well as fairground rides which carry a small charge. You can browse and shop over 100 stalls with products across a range of categories from homeware to children’s clothing. This year you’ll find everything from candles, ceramics, jewellery and handmade toys; we love the crochet plushies made by Fulham local Modern Olivia Makes.

The organisers encourage visitors to arrive hungry and make a day of it. Food lovers will find plenty to tempt them, with stalls serving pizza, grilled favourites from Randall’s Butcher, churros from Agua Na Boca, crepes from Crepe Royale, Japanese dishes from Akindo, Indian street food from Crazi Jalfrezi, doughnuts, ice cream from Mr Softee and a Piña Colada bar.

As well as being such a lovely annual tradition the event provides vital funds to support the organisers Fulham Good Neighbours. Since 1966 they have provided practical and wellbeing support to older people and those with disabilities. Services take place in people's homes and gardens, in the community, at their community centre, and online. They do a huge variety of incredible work from pairing volunteers with beneficiaries for gardening help and friendly support, matching volunteers to have regular in-person or phone chats with older people who may be feeling isolated and digital inclusion which provides 1-1 support with digital skills at home or at their centre: free laptop lending, digital drop-ins and techy tea parties in Fulham.

We love the story behind this community organisation so read on if you don’t know it and want to hear more.  Founded in 1966, Fulham Good Neighbours has its roots in the Fulham District Nursing Association. The Association was established in October 1919 or April 1920, using funds from the Fulham War Memorial Trust Fund, created after the First World War. At the time, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Fulham sought to raise £20,000 for a memorial to the fallen and the construction of a memorial hospital. Although the full amount was not raised, the War Memorial in Vicarage Gardens (Putney Bridge Approach) was built, and remaining funds were used to maintain the memorial and establish the Fulham District Nursing Association.  With the creation of the London Borough of Hammersmith, local healthcare services were taken over by the Council, and the Nursing Association was dissolved. However, the Fulham War Memorial Trust Fund allowed its remaining income to be redirected to other charitable purposes for local residents — leading to the establishment of Fulham Good Neighbours.
