Friends of Bishops Park 25th anniversary

Urban Village LDN were invited along to celebrate the Friends of Bishops Park 25th anniversary. We’re big fans of what this group does and if you’re a local who lives in close proximity to the park consider becoming a member to support them; it’s only £10 a year! It was a glorious evening to celebrate al fresco with a delicious cake provided by Bishops Park Tea House.

We caught up with Chair, Sarah Jane Johnston to talk about how this organisation has grown and the way locals can get involved. “People can get involved in more ways, as well as being members, by volunteering to litter pick, help with weeding and deadheading the roses, or by bagging up the duck food. We welcome all ages from Duke of Edinburgh volunteers to retirees. Nature is front and centre stage now and we are busy with a variety of biodiversity projects around the park under the aegis of our nature champion Stephen Lavery. eg planting wildflower patches, putting up bird boxes, organising bat walks, and of course our new tree trail on the Ticl app so that park users can really appreciate the wonderful green space and wildlife that surrounds them. We are collaborating with the other green spaces in the area eg Friends of Fulham Cemetery and of course Fulham Palace with the aim of creating a wildlife corridor which will become an oasis for pollinators”.

This New Ground Art Studio exhibition

Launched in October 2024, This New Ground’s Art Studio, based at the Creighton Centre, is an inclusive space supporting artists with a learning disability and/or who are neuro divergent in Hammersmith & Fulham. This July, the studio proudly presents its first public exhibition, showcasing vibrant and diverse works by eight talented artists, each with a unique voice and perspective. This curated exhibition will take place at Sands End Arts & Community Centre and features a diverse range of artworks where artists were encouraged in their studio to experiment, express themselves, and grow creatively.

Entrance is free and everyone is welcome to go along discover powerful, original works of art, meet the artists, hear their stories and learn more about The New Ground’s inclusive studio and social enterprise projects. Artists with learning disabilities and who are neuro divergent remain among the most underrepresented in the cultural sector. This exhibition boldly challenges these barriers, demanding visibility, raising expectations, and redefining what inclusive contemporary art can be.

Daisy Trust

Congratulations to The Daisy Trust who raised over £120k at their back tie fundraising event. The ball in June, attended by over 200 guests, was one of the first functions held at Fulham Pier and we are in no doubt that the funds raised will make a huge difference to beneficiaries who are all located within our borough.

Over the last ten years, the Trust has grown significantly and given in excess of £650,000 to over 130 organisations and in 2024 The Daisy Trust gave £85,000 to 46 organisations. On the night Julie Cavanagh from SEAPIA explained how the Trust has helped with critical projects for young children and said “The Daisy Trust have supported SEAPIA for many years, they are one of our key funders and have helped us to become an excellent setting that prides itself on improving the lives of the most vulnerable children and young people living in our community”.

Jackie Lee, Chairman of The Daisy Trust said “We are overwhelmed by the extraordinary generosity shown at our third Daisy Trust Ball. This magnificent evening at Fulham Pier is a powerful statement about our community's commitment to supporting our most vulnerable residents. Thanks to our sponsors, donors, and the tireless work of our volunteer committee, every pound raised will immediately transform into much needed grants for organisations across Hammersmith and Fulham. After 44 years of service, the Daisy Trust remains unwavering in our mission to support our community right here on our doorstep."
